Holy Cow... what is this?

What does it do? have you seen it moving alot? I can't tell what da heck it is... pretty cool though
This is the first time I've ever seen it.
It crawled out of a piece of live rock that I've had for over 3 years.
Most likely crawled out as it was dying.
The tank is currently in Hyposalinity treating Ich.
Decided to treat the main tank instead of quarantine of after much research and debate.
No inverts or corals in the tank (well, none that I knew about) and I am watching ammonia and PH very closely.
Would love to know what this is before I go to remove it.

quick question. Why didn't you remove your LR to a holding tank for 6 weeks while you treated the main tank with Hypo. It would have saved most of the live stuff on the LR and would have insured that the LR didn't hold any of the crypto

I would say sea squirt also. Probably on its death bed due to the hypo salinity. Would suggest you keep an eye on your water quality since theres no telling what and how much is going to die off. Would have been much better if you could have put all the fish into a quarantine tank and treat them with hyposalinity, with no fish in the main tank for six weeks, all the Ich parasites would have died off while those on the fish would be killed by the hypo.

Thank you for the concern. I appreciate that RC members are always looking out for the health and well being of other members and thier tanks. One of the things that makes this community great.
I've read that article and at least 6 others on Hypo, doing it with liverock was a decision I did not take lightly.
Most of the rock in the tank was not live (new base rock). The small amount that was live had pests that had taken hold after several months of neglect in the tank I was breaking down. I removed everything I could before transfer but when the outbreak occured they were coming back in force. Hypo is killing two birds with one stone. The beneficial copods and other tiny inverts on what little live rock I had are being sacrificed for the greater good.
I am watching water quality very closely and am doing water changes regularly.
One term used below that I did not see in any of my reading is "crypto". I am interested in the defenition if you could PM me with it.

I have some additional photos after I pulled this guy out last night. He has sections of hard shell down his back that get more concentrated by his tail end. He's about 3-4 inches long adn about 1 inch diameter. I'll post pictures later.

"Crypto" is short for Cryptocaryon Irritans more commonly referred to as Ich.

I always used to miss the obvious on pop-quizzes in College too.
It was my understanding from my reading that, without a host, over a period of time longer that it's full lifecycle (4 - 6 weeks after visible spots) that Crypto cannot live. I did not see any mention that somehow liverock can substitute as a host. Am I misinformed?

which side is it's head?
I have one of those ( I think). It has the same holes on top and the same brown and cream color pattern. Whatever I have comes out only in the middle of the night and moves with an amoeba like action. As soon as I hit it with the flashlight, it crawls back into the rocks. I have no idea what it is, what it does, or what it eats. One time I took the rock that it hides in out of the tank for a better look and was able to touch the creature - it felt leathery.
