Perhaps this may help catch the crab. Others may have different methods. One of my Koralias kept on dropping the outer cage during the day, and for several evenings in a row, I would come home and have to reach all the way down and retrieve it from the back corner.... each time... as if a mini version of the Deadliest Catch, my emerald crabs would be in the cage. I hardly ever see these lil guys unless i am picking this basket off the bottom. You may want to leave a small strawberry basket or cup... with some bait in it and see what you get.

OK I am going to take the prize for the dumbest question of the day but here goes: why do you want to kill the gorilla crab?

Just a newbie question.

They're really bad news--they eat your fish & other creatures. Not sure about corals. I wouldn't want to kill one myself--just feed it to my mantis. If he kills it, that's his business.

exactly correct, they can be a menace in an aquarium. They serve their purpose in nature, but in a contained environment they can wreak havoc. Mine was a hitchhiker on a coral/rock that I bought at an lfs. At first I thought I won the lottery when I saw that I got a free crab (as I placed it in the tank the crab dropped to sand bed and slipped into the existing rock). After closer examination and ID, I realized/learned what he was. They will catch/eat fish and snip corals. While natural, neither behavior is acceptable in my tank. Part of the reason I keep my own ocean in my living room is so I can choreograph the cycle of life. :)

I found the hole mine was living in and repeatedly jabbed a wire coat hanger in it till I felt the shell break. Tough little buggers really. I couldnt believe how hard I had to jab that coat hanger.

That thing is bad *** Efrain. If you do catch it DON"T kill it. Save it for me. O)

BTW I agree, it does look like a molt.

So how do you recognize one of these bad boys. It appears to be prickly in the pix. I have not purposefully put any crabs other than hermit crabs. Is everything else bad?

i have one too, i have been leaving it alone, I know where he hides and could remove the rock whenever I want. My display is in hypo right now. will this kill him?

They have eyes that glow red in the dark, just plain evil.
