holy-Micro bubbles battman

supper skimmer creating alot of micro bubbles along with overflow draining. going through 3 sets of aqua clear foam, 2 sets of 3 baffels, and a 7 in filter sock. still micro bubbles in my display!!! it upsets me
 
Take a water bottle, cut the top off and put it in the sump. Have the return of the skimmer go in the bottle. Water(and microbubbles) will have to overfill the bottle and pour out in the sump. This way most of the microbubbles are already on the surface and won't be able to pass the baffles. I have a baffle free sump and no microbubbles(but maybe my skimmer doesn't produce that many...)
 
Some more details about your system might help. How big is your sump? What return pump are you using? How many GPH are going through your sump?
 
Also, what's being added to the water? Some treatments cause a lot of bubbling. The slime coat helpers have done this, for example.

How long has the skimmer been running?
 
its a 33 gallon with 2 sets of 3 baffels. 1300 gph magdrive, had 2 but micobubbles was too much with that much flow. anyways, i am using phos guard, and carbon through reactors. other then that i dose reef snow and feed brine shrimp. its most deffinatly coming from the skimmer and drain hoses.
 
I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but I agree that checking out the skimmer carefully is a good first step.
 
hey, I will check out the skimmer soon. but ive heard of these problems before. I'm running the skimmer through a filter sock right now. i have the hang on mod in my bucket o parts. ill try putting it together and see what happens. By the way even in the pictures of the pvc mod there are a ton of micro bubbles.... so i dunno if this will help much lol. ughhh this is like a huge thorn in my side..... makes my tank look like crap lol
 
Take the knob off the top piece that holds the air line in place, drill out hole slightly bigger, big enough to get the air line by itself. Tape off the first strainer intake portion,the protion clostest to the pump itself, I put a 5/8" peice of rubber tubing in mine, this will force the water flow in stronger and mix the air better. Mesh mod the impeller, this really works great.
 
Try reducing your flow, bubble traps only work by catching bubbles with foam or letting them float faster than the current pushes them down with baffles. If your flow is too high they just get pushed past by the current. Use a 3/4" gate valve rather than a ball valve as it's easier to fine tune, just above the pump, then a 3/4" close nipple to reattach your plumbing above. I work on multiple thousand gallon systems and occasionally a pump sucks air because the flow is too great in too small a space and bubbles get blasted into the intake. Same thing just a different scale, you need to find a way to slow the flow so bubbles can float.
 
I agree on slowing down the flow from your return pump. You said the sump is 33 gals how big is the display tank?
