i bought a home depot 250 se white halide bulb to light my tank until i can get 3 250 10k xms. is this ok. ime nt puttin any corals in it until i add the 10ks i just wanna get mey water params right and consistent before i start adding the xms.

ive got stuff in the tank about 100 lbs of live rock, 4 chromis, and a chonk( i think i spelled that right. its been runnin dark w/ just lights from the room for the last 6wks. ive got the fuge in the stand lit up 24 hrs. i ddnt want all the algae of the liverock i just added to die off so i bought the cheap bulb. plus this is my 1st hallide system nt to mention the 1st time i ever wired anything like this. i wanted to make sure it worked. i lit it up last night. ive never seen any light that bright before. my lighting over my 72 was 296 watts of power compact. doesnt compare even w/ the cheap home depot lights. will i still experience bad algae growth if i reduce my nutrients to 00?

Did you buy a whole fixture from Home Depot? I have looked to see if I can pick up a reasonable fixture and just change out the bulbs but I have not seen any MH fixtures at my HD.

Actually a 5500k bulb (if that is the spectrum on the bulb)can grow corals but as stated that spectrum favors algae growth and is going to be brutal yellow.

naw i got the ballast from hellolights, i just got the bulb itself from home depot, its 250se probe start bulb. it color is labeled as crisp white. ime sure it will gro corals but its gotta lot of yellow in it.
