What kind of Urchin! I briefly read somewhere of an urchin type 'wearing' tank items and I thought it was nothing that great... Until I saw this stylish little guy! ((I really dislike Urchins, but I think I could get used to one who wore a hat.... lol))

he's a pincushion (i dunno, maybe it's a female considering the fashion statement). this guy is always carrying something around, usually several different shells and little pieces of rubble. since he was going to a social event, he wanted something special so i gave him the frag but i told him he hadda be back in his room by 10 p.m. and no cavorting with strange inverts while he was away from home.

i have another small pincushion and he likes small shells. my tuxedo urchin rarely picks anything up.

paulB has a picture of one of his urchins sporting an entire frag, plug and all! it's hilarious!

Are they easy(ish) to take care of? They seem like something very interesting to have.

there really isn't any "taking care of". acclimate, drop 'em in and let 'em go to town on the glass and rocks. i leave my back glass alone (no scraping) so there is plenty for them to eat. i sometimes rubber band a small piece of nori to a piece of rock for my fish to pick at. if the urchins find it, they will stay on it till it's completely gone.

you have to have glass though as they will scratch an acrylic tank.

make sure you get one that is reef safe. i've only ever had tuxedo and pincushion urchins.

I didn't pick it up just yet. I ordered a Blue Tuxedo Urchin, but the LFS ordered me a Longspine Urchin instead saying that'll it'll be better, and tried charging me an extra 20 bucks. Needless to say I walked out, pistoff, and went to a different LFS and ordered it. Should have it in 3 days.
