Due to being trapped in the house by a ice storm. I was looking at my son's school books. In of the chapters it talked about making Co2.

Here is how it is done in a nut shell. crushed egg shells (dry) added to house hold vinager. This will cause a bubbling action. As a end resault Co2 is made. Has enyone done this are heard about this???

Sugar, water and yeast is simpler for a DIY CO2 reactor that is often used by FW planted tank folks.

None of these DIY methods work very well for a CaCO3/CO2 reactor since the flow is never easy to control, but if you are simply adding some CO2 to reduce the tank pH, or provide some CO2 as Bill mentioned, then it can be a fine way to go.
