I need to catch my Miniatus Grouper. I know to use a barbless hook. He is very aggressive and I am worries he will swallow the hook when he strikes the bait. If this happens with a carbon steel hook, will the hook pass through? Corrode? Will he be ok?

Thanks,

I'd say the chances of the hook passing through a fish without snagging on something while going through the digestive system are pretty slim.

I caught my miniatus with a #22 or #24 hook, I bent the barb in so it was basically barbless. My fish was very aggressive as well, it swallowed the piece of meat but did not ingest the hook, it caught nicely in the mouth and I pulled it out pretty easy.

If you're really worried, just dont bury the hook way into the meat, put it on the outside so when the fish bites it, which it will, it will get the hook caught and not swallow the hook with the meat.

My miniatus was pretty easy to catch because it fed so aggressively, but it varies by fish I guess.

I just held a piece of shrimp in the water and netted it when it came out to eat.
