Looks like I've been bitten by the Tunze bug.
I recently jumped back into reefing when a friend decided to get out. I bought a new 90g Oceanic Tech Tank and transferred the inhabitants (3 fish, 60lbs rock) from my friend's 65g. I set up a 20g Long tank as a sump with Mag 9.5 return pump. I also used an Aqua C Remora skimmer running on an MJ1200.
Things were going well so I added a couple of fish. A couple turned into 6 fish over a 4 week period and then all but 2 of my fish died within a few days. I never did figure out the problem, but I decided to let the tank sit for a while.
Around two months ago I purchased an Osmolator and used a 5g Home Depot bucket. I had to clean the sensor after the second day after it almost overflowed the sump.
Two weeks ago I added a 6060 after waiting for months for the nano streams. Then for Christmas I got a 9010 skimmer. Needless to say, I didn't get anything else for Christmas from the SO!
The first 48 hours were less than inspiring. The bubbles were barely above the top of the skimmer body. After reading this forum I gained some patience and waited. On the third day, things started happening. The bubbles were at the top of the collection cup and I had to cut back on the air. There was about half an inch tea-colored nog.
Two days later and my tank is getting obviously better. The water looks clearer, the film algae is receding, and my fish look healthier.
I am now a very satisified Tunze customer.
Oh, and pics are coming in the next post.
