hoping to pair maroon clowns

I currently have one very healthy maroon clownfish hosting in a bta. It is about 3 inches long and eats like a pig. I would love to introduce another maroon as a mate. Other than getting one smaller than what I have now, does anyone have any advice as to how to go about the match-making process? I did a search on RC on pairing clownfish but came up with very little. Thanks in advance for your help.

maroon clowns are really aggressive and i have heard stories about a soon to be mate killed. try to get a breeder box or a strawberry case to put him into after acclimation. the box would help introduce the new fish to the old one without any fighting

Good luck, my large female killed it's intended mate. I was told to get the smallest one you can find. I kept it in a small enclosure in the tank for several days so they could get aquanted. When I released it the attacks began and continued on and off. The next morning it was dead. I won't try again, maybe you'll have better luck. : )

Don't get a juvenile, but one small enough as to not be a threat for the one you have in now. Either way, it can be hit and miss. It usually works out better to get two at the same time.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I think I'll hold off until I get my larger tank up and running and then, get a new one to introduce at the same time I move the one I have now. Maybe I'll have some luck that way, or at least have room for the two to coexist.

hiya, i to have went threw this same issue and found one really solid idea to getting a pair of clows. buy them as pairs same size and put them in the tank at the same time so they have no dominant territory and they will band to find somewhere to live.
only way i have found it to be a non harmfull to eachother way.
