I've seen those gloves but I think they will tear pretty easily....only 1.25 mil.
I am in touch with a company that manufactures industrial gloves of all sorts...I told them what we are looking for and they said they would get back to me.

In all seriousness, get better. That is a scary situation. And for those that have "never had a problem", it is one of those things that you can develop a sensitivity to over time. You can be fine for years then all of a sudden this happens. Definitely worth looking into some protection.
I was thinking about something like this. While not shoulder length, it should be thick enough to prevent scrapes on your hands while being workable as they aren't too thick.

Yes....finding gloves that will allow us to do what we need to do while providing adequate protection won't be easy.....BUT I'm still looking....

Wow! What an eye opener. Like so many of us, I have those "up to my armpit gloves" but never wear them for reasons previously stated. Chris, my best wishes for a rapid recovery and for this reality blast!

This same exact thing happened to me. I got hit by a fox face in the process as well. So I had major hand damage, cellulitis infection from the rocks and water AND fox face poison in my blood. I went to the er when the red line started traveling up my arm as well! How crazy. The va hospital admitted me for 2 days. No cutting the hand open but that is the worst pain ever! It's like it was in your bones. They had me on delotid and Percocet with a side of some crazy antibiotic that made me hallucinate. I feel your pain brother! Same exact thing. That's crazy.

Two days in the hospital 4 types of antibiotics and a month went by before the swelling started going away .
The pain was unbearable it hurt for like 4 months . Now I am happy to say it's just a memory .
I also thought about seriously quitting the hobby but my wife in friends made me reconsider .
I since have got coral life gloves but hate them and eventually stopped using them.
I just respect the rank more and try to be more careful . I have scraped my self since and freaked out but I cleaned it well and lucky dodged an infection .
Scary stuff in our tanks that can really mess us up. Good luck on recovering and don't quit the hobby if u are truly passionate about it .

Blood infection. Years back, I use to have a dozen snakes, a few turtles and an alligator. I raised rats as food. The male rat freaked out one day and bit me. This was a large rat. The bite healed and I was fine. One day a few weeks later, I notice a red line on my arm. A few people said blood infection. I work a few hours at the bar and have one drink. The line is going up my arm. I get home and my roommate tells me I look like Crap. I drive to the hospital and almost ran off the road 3 times. They pumped me full of chemicals, I passed out. I would have been dead if I hadn't gone in. My system was shutting down. Doctor said the rats very long teeth must have chipped inside my hand and released bacteria finally, three weeks later.

Omg Chris feel better. So scary. After hearing about all this it makes me want to sell everything off nd just keep my clownfish and anemone.

Glad to see you pulled through it. It's crazy how much stuff lives in our tanks. I use thick nitrate gloves that I get from work. Even though the water gets in them, they provide the barrier needed to keep sharp things from cutting the skin. Did they tell you what kind of bacteria it was? I doubt all ER doctors would be familiar right away like yours was.
