hosting questions...

Ok, it's been a month and he hasen't attached yet. I've nudged him to several different locations in the tank. He always ends up back in the sam spot, but dosen't attach.

Now I got my 250w MH system 2 weeks ago and have eggcrate over the top to help acclimate. However, his tenticles seem to be "shrinking" and turning bronish? Overall health just does not seem reall good. He takes mysis shrimp and I feed about once a week. My 2 clowns have not decided to host in him.

Anything else I can do? I do not have any new pics yet but can grab one if it helps.

I appreciate all your input.

The brown is probably some zooxanthellae coming back, in the pics at the top it looks pretty white - which usually isn't a good color for a nem. A darkening color is probably a good thing in this case.

Shrinking tents: there's a couple ideas that come to mind. Sometimes the tentacles stretch out when there's not enough light to maximize the light exposure. Other times they shrink in absence of adequate feedings. I wonder if yours is a combination of the two. Now that you have better lighting, it doesn't need to stretch so much. On the other hand, I think mysis once a week for a nem that size may not be enough. I think you would should be able to feed mysis more often during the week, but I think most would suggest changing to meatier foods (clams, scallops, silversides, krill, shrimp, etc..) and these maybe every 3 or 4 days while it's recovering, and then once a week between sufficient feedings will probably be fine as long as lighting remains good.

A pic never hurts ;)
Good luck!

Ok It seems to be a bit better today after I feed it yesterday. But here it is. Ya'll tell me what you think. I happen to have some scallops in the freezer. So ya think a few times a week untill he's healthier? I have no exp with these guys so I trust your judgment....lol

Learn as we go.

I would say there's some zoox. coming back :) Good job.

The tentacles look fine to me, but I've never had one of these, so don't take my word for it! Changing the food (bigger/ meatier pieces) may make it comfortable enough to settle in.

Question: What's on the right side that the tentacles are stuck in?

Good luck!

He likes to feel up the overflow. It's not a fast current down there he can pull out whenever he feels like it.

I've tried. he keeps heading back there all by himself. There isn't much current at the bottom. It's all at the top and the tank is 24" deep. Think that's still a problem?

Yeah...I'd cover that slot with some plastic mesh or something so that his tentacles can't get in there.
