House fire

The attached picture is a reef tank after a horible house fire. The tank actually belongs to my neighbor. The fish, crabs, shrimp, snails and scallops died. I did a rescue of the corals the next morning while he was recovering from smoke inhallation and this is what I have today (by the way, the light still works... smells bad, but works). Also attached are the corals now living at my house...

sorry to hear about this...I becareful about those lights especially if there is a smell to it have it looked at by an electricain

I had a fire once in an appartment I was renting - second floor of a house. I had a small reef tank there. The entire house was toast. I couldn't get near the house till the next day. Fireman had taped off the and put up signs not to enter.

Temps were in the 30-40's. Just planing to salvage anything I could, not even thinking of the tank. Stairs were half gone, plus most of the floor - probably shouldn't have even been in there. It was a little scary. Found a few possession and was getting ready to leave when I realized the tank was still standing in the corner - I could barely see in it - no lights, soot on the glass, but decided to reach in and grab any corals. I forget what I put them in because I don't think I had a plastic bag. Funny thing was - they lived!

I had a few baby pink skunk clowns in ther that I had bred but I couldn't see them if they were still alive.

I feel for you neighbor. It is a horrible experience and a tough one to shake.

Wow best wishes to your neighbor and hope he will be okay.

DO you know if the tank's equipment was the cause of it or if it was just a victim in it?
