I have a pair of ocellaris clowns, which I've had now for a little over a year. They spend 50% of their time in one corner of my tank and they sleep in that corner, but they don't seem to like the sand. They constantly clear an area about 3 inches square at the bottom of the tank in their little corner. They grab some sand in their mouth, swim away, spit out the sand and then swim back for more...until the bottom of the tank in their little corner is bare bottom. If I happen to move the sand back, they start housecleaning again and, before you know it, the bottom of their little area is sand free.
I don't mind that they do this. It's actually rather funny. But I'm curious...why do they do this?
