How about a clownfish FAQ /Prerequisite sticky

As many of you know, a lot of the same basic questions keep coming up.
i.e..
"I think my clowns have paired up, now what?"
" When all these eggs hatch, how many anemones do I need?
"When the clowns I just got lay eggs, how much money can I plan on making the first year"
"How do I keep the larvae out of the protein skimmer"

Ok so those are a little over emphasized, but you get the point. Quite a few questions come up that have the cart way out in front of the horse.

It's great to have the newbies and at some point all of us were in that boat, but there seems to be so many questions that are over looked and not answered in full. I am guilty of this but I don't have time to quote a chapter of Wilkerson to answear a question. I willing to bet that a lot of these same questions would not come up if the search function worked consistently.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to come off as being the all knowledgeable, know it all breeder cause I'm not even close. After 2 years i may have a pretty good grasp of the idea but In fact I learn new things every time I'm on the forum. But I think it would be helpful to have a sticky to get things started for any newbies.

Another thing that may be helpful, if anyone has it, would be some links to posts of FAQ's. (besides the ones that say "read the book") :D
Wasn't there a PDF clownfish breeding someplace? Anyone have a link?
Anyone else see a need for this sticky?

Title : Clownfish Breeding FAQ

Breeding clownfish is not easy. but you can make it easier and more rewarding by reading the following.

CLOWNFISHES by Joyce Wilkerson
CONDITIONING, SPAWNING & REARING FISH WITH EMPHASIS ON MARINE CLOWNFISH by Frank Hoff
PLANKTON CULTURE MANUAL 6TH EDITION by frank Hoff

FAQ's like:

My clowns laid eggs now what?
How do I breed clowns?
What do I feed the larval?
Why are my clowns fighting?
Why are my clowns not laying eggs?
Why is the male eating the eggs?

And many more are all answered in the for mentioned books. Before you post what you think is a legitimate question and wonder why no one responds, do yourself a favor and do some reading or at least a search for your answer. If you still can't find what your looking for, create a post. The members of this forum are willing to help.

I think a lot of that is already in the clownfish & anemone forum. At least that's where it should be :)

Agreed, but the breeding part should be here.
Here's the breeding pdf:

AND, Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson is a very good book.

It would be very helpful to have references such as these made into a sticky. Having accomplished one sticky this week, let's let someone else have a go at it.
Good luck!

Kathy, you've been all over that doc since you've seen it. :D

The part about the sticky, you're not being sarcastic are you?

I have to disagree here, there is already a specific forum dedicated to clownfish and all the newbie info discussed above is there. This is the Fish Breeding Forum, NOT the Clownfish Forum. IMO it should be moved from Marine Fish Forums to Special Interest Forums. If RC had an "Advaced" catagory like other sites it should be there.

I have nothing against newbs, we all started somewhere. I just think it is the responsibily of the hobbyist to take advantage of the information already available before asking people to rewrite it one thread at a time.

Why not a sticky on orchid dottybacks or bangaii or wolf eels ( I could write that one :D ) ?

Yes we really need to reorganize this forum so it's easier to navigate, but a million stickies for every species imaginable is not the answer.

David,
Your point is well taken. My suggested sticky was much to narrow minded and clownfish orientated but I think in most cases this is where new breeders start and most of the questions come from. Not many newbs picking up eggballs of GWE's at the lfs. :D I also agree that the forum would be more properly positioned in the special interest forum.

How about a more general sticky to cover all species and FAQ's?

Kathy,
I have to admit your sticky and the post the other day with the book reference got me thinking.
BTW, nice job on the sticky.
