How about having a "non-club" gathering (beer, etc)?

In talking to some of the members, it seems that in the "old days" the meetings were about hanging out with each other, drinking a few beers, etc. I also understand that with more and more members, having a club "sponsored" event with people drinking can lead to issues for the club.

That said, we can still get together and drink beer. It doesn't have to be a club sanctioned event. What I'm suggesting is that we get together for some beers somewhere. Preferably somewhere the beer is cheap, cause I think we could all use as much of our spending money on reefing as possible.

I know that Spice Rack has $1 (10oz) Bud Select on Wednesday nights. I'm not a Bud fan. I typically drink Coors light, but I tried the Bud Select (BS..haha) and it was very similar. They also have a 20 or 22ox for $2.

Rookies has some pretty good prices on pitchers of beer some nights.
Up in Maryville, there's always Naterz, but that may not be centrally located since it seems a lot of members are east of knoxville.

Anybody else want to get together sometime for some beers? Any other suggestions for cheap beers (or even cheap liquor)?

I'd be open to meeting at somebody's house, but then it turns into a "party" and people begin planning snacks, and have to clean house to get ready, and it just becomes work for somebody. If get togethers are work, they happen less often.

I'm not opposed to unofficially hanging out, but don't get the impression that we do not hang out at every meeting or that there are no alcoholic beverages at the meetings. In fact, there has been alcohol allowed every meeting I've ever attended. It's never led to issues at "club sanctioned events", as far as I know. We're adults and drink responsibly.

There's a little gem called "The Ale House" behind Hardees at 7125 Kingston Pike that has nightly specials, very cheap drinks, and surprisingly good steamed sub sandwiches. I was actually thinking about going there tonight.

I would be interested in having a few beers also. Chili's always has 2 for one beers and well liquor drinks/margaritas and there are a few scattered around town. Wild Wing Cafe usually has drink specials certain nights of the week along with pretty good wings too. I can and will drink any beer but prefer the import/premium beers.

I thought drinking was a little bit frowned on by the "powers that be," but maybe I'm mistaken. Nonetheless, the meetings are only once a month and maybe occasionally a few of us should just go for an informal few drinks, with no preparation or tasks assigned to anybody.

Tonight may not be a good night, since I have a birthday party to attend. However, I may get out of there early enough for something else.

Spenser,.......Please explain!

We have had "drinking" and "beers" at every meeting I have attended except the one at Aquatic Marine and at the frag swaps. The frag swaps were held at a church and not "drinking" and no "beers" was not a problem as far as I could tell. Nobody ever wanted to move the frag swap to another location so "drinking" and "beers" could be a part of the event. At least no one ever shared the information with me. The Aquatic Marine owners requested that "drinking" and "beers" be excluded from the meetings held at their business. Nobody ever said "Well, we should not have a meeting there, if that is the case." -- as far as I know anyway.

So, I do not know what you mean unless this another attempt on the part of "œsome of the members" to stir up trouble and discontent.

As far as the term "œpowers that be" "“ that seems like it might be the current club Board of Directors. If the current BOD is a problem, that problem can be easily fixed with the nominations and the elections that will be completed before the September meeting. I cannot and will not speak for the other BOD members. You can pole them on your own. Since these comments from "œsome of the members" seem to be directed at me, I am sure that the result will be that I will not be part of the "œpowers that be" come the September meeting. Hopefully this will satisfy the "œsome of the members" and all of this hate and discontent can stop.

I'm not the least bit upset, trying to stir up troubles, or anything...but now that I hear you all have been holding out the beers on me, it's on!!! :D

Perhaps I misunderstood a bit, due to the timing of when I joined the club. I fully understand not drinking at a church, and at AM.

Not at all. I didn't intend to come across that way. In fact, if you think this thread could stir somebody up, delete it...or talk to the person that can. I'm pretty happy with the club and EVERYBODY in it...and don't have any problems with how the "powers that be" do their part in it. :lolspin:

Again, sorry if I unintentionally offended anybody or gave the impression that I was offended. I'm a lot harder to **** off than that. :D I could just use some new drinking buddies, and all my other buddies care nothing about fish tanks. I don't drink often, but sure don't like to drink alone.

I don't think I will rate as the biggest lush, as I've heard that Dana has earned that crown. hehe (now she's getting nervous)

But the bottle type of crown, is just my style. I did get out last night to a friend's Bday party and put down about a half pint. I sill have some red bull left over. :)

No drinking at ETRC functions!!!

In case the function does frown upon consumption (which is fine:) ) there is always apple juice;)
