How bif should an aquacultured H. magnifica be?

My LFS has a H. Magnifica that she has cut several times. The anemone was from a local tank so it has been doing well for around two years now. It has been cut into 4 and then two months later each 4 were cut in half. My questions are 1- How big should they be? 2- how long should i wait to make sure it is a good purchase? I have read that it takes about 2 months for the anemone to heal properly, I have only had experience with splitting LTA and BTA's. The anemones are about the size of my fist I am told. I have not been able to see one yet so how can i tell if it is healthy?

Are you certain it is a magnifica and not a BTA? It sounds like a silly question, but they are often confused even by experts.

Otherwise I don't think the size matters much. If the cut is healed and the anemone is eating, go for it. Smaller is better in my mind for transport.

I wouldn't worry too much about health in this situation, but look for a tightly closed mouth and good color in the tentacles.

I would really love some more information and pictures if you can get them. As far as I know there are only a couple of us who have cut mags and having more info would be spectacular.

I agree. If you truly have a source of cultured mags I'd love to know more about it, especially some pics!

Sounds very E. quadricolor (BTA) size. Even a small magnifica is larger then that and as stated, some BTAs do look like mini magnificas, purple column, ball up, etc.

IMHO, "did not happen without pictures" ;>)

Thanks guys that is the same thing i was wondering. I will see what they look like in person hopefully this week if not then next week and i will be sure to post any pics i can get. Thanks

i believe to have seen the clones of this anemone before. Being a former magnifica owner(check my gallery) i personally believed the "cloned" anemone to be a uniquely colored BTA. This is all being upon we are talking about the same anemone in question(which i think we are, but also could not be). But again if we are, it is a BTA not an H. Magnifica.
