How can i stop water from Evaporaing

you can slow it down by covering your tank. you cant stop it. i think cooler water may evaporate slower but i could be wrong. Tomorrows opening day LETS GO CUBBIES!!!

The only way i know to STOP water from evaporating is to change the laws of physics and get mother nature to follow the new rules

short of that i just top mine off daily

You really cant, maybe if you added a chiller you could slow it some probably not enough to make a whole lot of difference, all that evaporation is whats keeping your tank from overheating.

Hi Jlz
[welcome]

You want evaporation as it helps cool the tank and aids in gas exchange. Consider an auto topoff if it concerns you.

you can use an auto top off so you can save yourself from topping your fresh water off manually

You can't

But you can slow it by adding a glass top to your tank.

Or you can add an auto top off system.

Also, a good investment is an auto top-off control. This will automate your freshwater top offs. ;)

Here's your pic too... just remember to insert your image codes. image link here [ /IMG]

Tank looks good. Invest in auto topoff of some sort, you will be so happy once you have it rolling. I suggest the Litermeter III + 55 gallon Brute. Flawlessly dosing kalk into my tank with precision for over 7 years now. I adjust it when the seasons (and evaporation rates) change, currently pushing exactly 10 liters per day (just over 2.5 gallons) to keep my 125 happy.

Physics 101: Evaporation is a _________ process?
Answer: Cooling

Evaporation is your friend, it helps keep the tank water cool.
I have a fan blowing on my sump for this very purpose.
Add a fan blowing across the water's surface and one on your sump and your water temperature will drop.
If you seal your tank up to decrease evaporation your temperature will go up and you will have gas exchange issues.

Do not cover your tank, better to let some water evaporate than to impede gas exchange and light transmission.

Just remove all of that pesky water. That'll take care of your evaporation problem.

Seriously, though, the things you can do to slow down the evaporation process tend to be counterproductive to running a reef tank. First, you want efficient gas exchange between the air and water surface, and then there's the heat transferred from your tank during the evaporation process.

if you can figure out how to stop water from evaporating you might also figure out how to stop time, make fire not burn and gravity not pull you down.

covering the tank will heat it up so badly itll turn it into soup.
and i gfet you got in the hobby to have a fish tank not a soup tank. it also prevents oxygenation suffocating your fish
