How can i stop water from Evaporaing

Seriously---we can be serious---many, if not most, marine tanks go topless except for the light support, precisely because, especially in summer, heat is a major problem. Evaporation keeps your tank from greenhousing its way to lethal temperatures---. You'll fare best stabilizing a day and night temp of about 80 degrees, with very little variation. That's got some small wiggle room in both directions before anything would be in trouble, if you have a power-out or other problem.

Serious? Well you can put a half gallon of motor oil on the surface and it will slow the process WAY down. :D

You can also get the water temp down as close to freezing as possible that will slow it down but even icecubes in the fridge can dissapear over time. :)

hehehe

I was at a Sportsman's show here in AK this past weekend and the Department of Fish and Game had little rainbow trout, dolly varden, and salmon in 29g tanks for viewing. I wonder how fast the water was evaporating in those -- at about 55 degrees.

Evaporation is your friend, it's a very cheap chiller, and gives you room to add kalk daily through your top off water. I know for me, when the summertime brings air with moisture in it and my evaporation rate is about half, I have to dose 2 part. Wintertime's drier air and stronger evaporation is a blessing.
