How can you sex tangs?

Well, the traditional Naso Tangs exhibit some sexual dimorphism...I believe it's based on the coloration of the caudal peduncle between the two "scaples" but honestly I don't remember any more than that. Good luck in your quest for info!

in general most tangs are not sexually dichromatic. However if you get into specifics you'll find that a few sp in the hobby actually have small tell tail differences.
You'll have to ask specifically about what your tang is, and start at fishbase or google

I guess I should have been a little more specific. What I want to do is find the sex of tangs that are not differently colored, such as the Naso's are.

Well, this is looking like a dead subject. Every source I have tried does not provide a method for sexing Paracanthurus hepatus (Regal Tang).

Not sure where to go from here.

Well Brad, where to go from here is to purchase at least 6 - the statistical odds are that you get at least one of each sex at that point...

Granted, I remember reading somewhere in this forum (as well as other articles) that tangs need HUGE amounts of room to spawn.

I also recall (and found the web page) dealing with the rearing of Yellow Tangs - http://www.sihawaii.com/sydkraul/tang.html

MP, Thanks. I really wanted to try was breeding powder blues or regal blues.

For some strange reason, I have been very lucky with breeding corals and freshwater fish. I've been fortunate enough to have corals release eggs and sperm in my 125 G. Unfortunately I the eggs and sperm were not from the same species. LOL

I've been able to hatch and maintain bamboo sharks, cut Kenya Trees and Elephant Ear Mushrooms, etc. with great success.

I also have a large Christmas Tree rock with 30-40 worms in it and it has been going strong for 1 1/2 years, which I understand is very good because they generally do not last that long.

At any rate, thanks again for the advice. I always appreciate it!!

Brad
