how close can i keep my VHO's to my MH's?

i know the farther away the better, but space is of the essence in this case and i need to know how close i can safely keep my vhos to my halides.

I would try no less than 6 inches. 4 minimum with excellent cooling and ventilation, other wise the heat will burn part of the internal film covering on the VHO which will still work but that portion will be blackened.
