How close is to close?

Ok my tank is over a year old and growth has been great corals r starting to shade lower corals and starting to grow very close to each other. I'm worried about chemical warfare. At what point do u trim? I have seen some grown out tanks that the corals r all very close together so any rule of thumb?

I wouldn't worry to much as long as the shading isn't horrible or effecting the corals color below, Ifso trim accordingly. Most acros with somewhat mesh together and create boundaries wih each other. The ones I have problems with encrusting monti's, Lps, and softies they with knock out half a colony quickly. I would run passive carbon to combat most chemical warfare.
