How cool is your tank?

Never Quit!!
I love the summer but these temperatures kill me

So on a beautiful day like this what's your tank temp like?

Mine is 77.4 :) no chiller just an ac on full blast

mine is at 81. I live in buffalo, seems like the first nice day in a year so I'm not ready for ac just yet

It helps to have it blow across the top surface of your DT. I've read that reefers my also utilize a fan to blow air across the sump if you have no room to attach fans to your DT.
Prepared frozen 2 liter soda bottles with RO water(in the event of a leak.. it's RO water not tap) placed into the sump will help cool water down, but have extra on reserve to switch out.
This summer its going to be a HOT ONE... GL.

I've read a lot about fans on top of the tank- does this work in the summer?

There have been plenty of discussion about fans
ie fans blowing across the light
blowing down onto the water
one blowing in and one blowing out

I personally have one blowing in across the lights and two down onto the water. I believe this works well for me.

I have centeral air so I do not need a chiller. I run the heaters in the summer and in teh winter run no heat.

The tank in the summer is 78 to 80

winter the tank is 79 to 81

Average summer surf temps in the areas where most of our fish and corals come from easily range in the low to mid 80s with spikes up to the low 90s. I believe higher summer temps can be tolerated in our tanks, the real caveat at those temps however, is oxygenation and disease outbreak. Up until recently when I moved my tank to my much cooler basement, I ran the tank at summer temps of 84 for years with no deleterious effect.

In the captive aquaria the risk are greater to maintain temps in the 80's. It all depends on the specific region which the coral originates that temperature toleration might be a consideration.

With most people having mixed reefs, I wouldn't chance it.

I know corals can tolerate a range of temps but like harry said y risk it?
In my case I spend toooooooo much time money and i dedicate alot of time reading and researching things tonmake my tank better.

I just spent 300 on an ac just for the room tha my tank is in..call me crazy (Im beginning to believe it anyways :D )

The thing we do for our tanks geeeeezzzz

These last couple of hot days I've been at 80 during the day and 78 at night(This was the 10G). I have NO AC at my house as of now, so AC first then chiller next.
