How do clownfish sleep?

I have a true percula, but no anemone yet (because my tank is only 2 weeks old). I was up in the middle of the night a few times last night, noticed it wasn't really sleeping in the traditional sense (ie, my wrasse disappears completely at night). The clown was up near the very top of the tank but obviously moving a bit, but staying in roughly the same place). Just curious about this.

That is fairly normal. My male clown did that for about a month -- until the female decided to let it in the LTA.

My clownfish sleep on my hairymush like a bed, the other one sleep sometime on the side on the sand, first time I saw him, i was sure he was dead, the open the light, he swam 2 inch away under my fock and continue to sleep lol

That is an incredible shot! Thanks. Maybe I just need to watch him a little more, let him adjust into the tank a little longer.

I came home this morning to find my female laying on her side on the sand under a nice rock overhang. My pair is also lacking an anemone, but they both used to sleep back in the rocks. It was pretty funny. I tried to get a good pic but it didn't come out.

Oh, she's out, alive and healthy.

My LFS had a clown they nicknamed a sleeping clown. He came into the shop and just settled down on the sandbed on his side. Unless he was disturbed or being fed he just laid on his side. He was there for a good 3-4months before someone finally bought him and that behavior never changed. It reminded me of those goats that pass out!

....I guess 'he' should be 'she' but i'm not going to go back and edit.

my percs. digg a lil sand bed on the bottom side of the tank next to the glass, could never get a picture because they wake up easy

My ocellaris sleep in their anemone, usually pretty bunched up together. My percs just float to the top and are sideways. Took me forever to get used to it.

I am very happy to read your accounts and see these pics! Only a week into this project (bought an established but semi neglected tank from craigslist) and tonight, after terrorizing the little couple while rearranging the entire aquascape, I see them exhibiting this behavior for the first time.

Whew, I can sleep now, fish aren't dying just yet!

Mine do the same thing :) During the day they hang around their ledge and pot, at night they move to the top 1.5 inch of water, directly above the pot they hang out in during the day. Looking at getting a nem soon, see if they might take to it. Just haven't seen a specimen I like before it get sold lol

I have 1 that hogs the rbta and the other goes near the top next to the pre-skimmer under the Tunze moonlight.
