How do I get sea grasses?

There is a sticky at the top of the forum,Where to get marine plants.Other than that You'll have to find someone to trade with.

I snorkel in that stuff in Tarpon springs, FL as well as St. Petersburg by the skyway bridge. It is really nice. I have seen flounder, scallops, catfish, pinfish, redfish and al tohers just swimming around in there.

I tried planting some in my tank, but my tangs preferred them over the NORI. given another year, my tangs will probably have outgrown the tank, to which I will end up donating them to my local aquarium and try the grass again.

Hey, if you go snorkeling again over there, could I convince you to send me a clump of that stuff? I'd be glad to discuss trades or money. And I'd certainly cover the shipping. All I can get that's really special in terms of trades, are pretty much any animal that lives in the long island sound. If you keep a brackish tank, some of them like the small sculpins and the red tube anemones can be pretty fun. pm me.

if you do collect it make sure it is legal to do so. also make sure you get some of the substrate it is rooted in and do not disturb the roots. you will have much better success that way. just my .2

I don't think there are any prohibitions against collecting macro-algae in Florida.

Dyepes, if you're gonna collect some Halophila aka stargrass and am willing to ship, I think there might be a couple of reefers interested....count me in :)

sea grass is not the same as macro algae, it is a true plant, and some restrictions are in place in some areas, not because the grass is in danger, but some of the critters that inhabit it are, like sea horses. i lived in Florida for years. just remember the undewater ecosystem is very fragile and as a responsible aquarist we want to be part of the solution not add to the problem. thats all I was meaning.
