How do I make it?

Great points Coyote.

I believe that this DIYLR is a viable method. I also think most negative stories are those who would lose money in sales or overly anxious people not curing properly JMO. These tend to be the same people that think their new tank cycles in 12 hours, and bio-load is determined by their credit card limit.

Frank. your last post has me cracking up!!!!

here's one of my 1st live rocks i made
49500live_rock.jpg

used a grocery bag as a mould

I have a bunch more, but I don't think anyone will appreciate pictures of a red bucket full of water (they're curing).

agrocrete

agrocrete

Been doing the rock for a while lot of fun and cost saving. I am lucky to have a brackish water canal by the house so I just put the rock in a plastic onion bag and let it soak for a month take it out then soak for a week in water from the tank changes. I have a few old pics I will post from when I just started after a couple months you can not tell the old reef rock from the agrocrete

tbrennan,
very nice work on the rock. can't tell the difference between the diy and real stuff. Beautiful coralline algae!! Gotta love that purple.

Thanks I scraped out two friends tanks for coraline and ended up with three different types growing dark purple, purple and pink. The tank has six months now and is starting to look good will get some updated this weekend

This is great!!

Being supremely cheap and always looking for a distraction from the things that need to get done around here, I will be cranking out klumps of krapp in no time. (I get a royalty if you name it that)

I figure I'll cure it in the guest bathtub, I don't want 'em staying that long anyway. :)

Love this site, and thanks for the thread.

FedEx says my new Digital Camera is due in latter today. I went with the Canon A60... what can I say, I'm a tightwad. Near as I can figure it has to be at least 10 times better than the disposables I'm used to. I have Friday off so provided I can figure it out I'll likely post some newer Man Made Live Rock Pic's ASAP.

After months of curing... zero phosphate. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate... zero. As for silicate, my diatom bloom came and went. I just consider it a part of the natural cycle due to using old water from WCs.

Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it !!

Next item on my list is a Microscope that I can hook to the camera. :-)

darbsallad,
In a nutshell the word on it, in my opinion, has to be "BS"... it's a myth. Unless of course one uses old DSB substrate or other unsuitable substances as rock making material.
This stuff has it's drawbacks but leaching bad stuff that it didn't pick up in the tank itself isn't one of them near as I can tell.
