How do I split a toadstool coral

I currently have a toadstool that is attached at the base to a piece of PVC pipe. The coral has grown into two separate stalks and they both have heads on them about 6 inches across. Question is how do I split off one of the stalks so I can have two separate specimens. I have never propagated a coral before, do I just cut off one of the stalks right at the base? or is there a different better way to go about it?

just cut it and super glue it.. or cut it and put it on some rubble and it will attach. you can cut it anywhere. you can cut the top off and cut that into pie slices.. isn't toadstool a soft, sacrophyton?

Typically, yes. The stump will regrow a cap. We fragged a toadstool once in a reef club meeting that was severely hacked up. It is the only toadie I've ever seen not recover (and it was hacked and hacked and hacked again into the previously hacked area). Razor blade it. If you can remove it from the tank, that would be best. In either case, run carbon after cutting. Leathers have some pretty potent toxins/chemicals. If super glue gel doesn't work (they can release alot of slime), loosely rubberband it to a base rock and give it a few days. There are a number of methods if neither of those works (toothpick, fishing line, etc.).
