Used tank...DSB dry as a bone when I bagged it up...refugium has mud that is still wet and a baggie of biology...live rock also dry as a bone...
Do I wash everything? Do I boil the rock?
Advice and opinions deeply appreciated!!
Thanks so much:-)

your rock is fine just put it in the tank and buy a few chunks of live rock.
ok now for the bad news your not going to want to hear.
your sand would be best if you got new sand and new refugium mud you really dont need the mud unless you are doing a planted fuge. you could just use sand with cheto. the reason is because your sand builds up alot of deterius when it is in your old tank and it will take a long time to wash it clean. but you can wash it in just tap water if you really want to.

make salt water get to right measurement....
let it age a day or two in Tank ... While aging have all equipment running check for leaks

Assuming rocks were not treated with any chemical sfrom previous owner, add Rock

Aqua Scape Rock,

Wash Sand, then wash some more, add sand to tank...

When it all settles, Add some fish food a non cooked shrimp etc to kick off cycle....

I don't know...it was odd to me that a 6" sand bed could BE dry as a bone...the fellow was evicted so the landlord sold the whole set up for $100...lol...I have three tanks and not one has water in it because I keep finding a better set up..oh make that two I sold the one today ;-) If you go to my gallery you will see it...I want to re-use the sand as it is fine as sugar and very white and a crushed coral on top...about 6-8 layers of screen with sand in between...the refugium (maybe I got the name wrong) is four chambers two with white rocks about the size of quarters and half dollars and one with bio balls and then the rolled up thing with a spray bar...I have a skimmer I wanna put in there as well...help I just wanna get it wet and put some green chromis in and let it all simmer for a while...I will be happy to watch a school of green chromis for a while :-) I HAVE been reading until I am cross eyed..I love this site but the search kinda sucks..sorry :-( still love it though

OK serious, sarcasm isn't my middle name.

Is the system in your gallery the one you have settled on? The one with all those sumps? Does it work? By that I mean does the water circulate and no leaks or so?

I'll be glad to help.

To wash the sand:
Fill 5gal bucket 3/4 full
Put garden hose on full
Stur sand with hand
Push hose all the way to the bottom of the bucket and keep sturing it
When the water runs clean you are done
Start on the next bucket

Now why can't my girlfriend remember both of those steps?
