How do you get rid of a worm

I have spotted an unknown critter in my tank. It looks a bit like a centipede when he stretches out put when it notices me it shrinks in size. I do not see any eyes and I know he can move around because I saw him in another rock the other day. It is a light brownish red color no white just one color. I think he was just eating my feather duster. Not from the tip but rather from the base. I have also had a couple of crabs strangely die I am wondering if it is him? I do not have a picture and don't think he would stay still for me to get one. Has anyone any suggestions? Or seen anything matching this description?

Bristleworm: red and black or just red, or sometimes pinkish red, with a row of bristles down the side: harmless detrivore, an eater of the dead, for which you may be grateful if you've had a giant snail die somewhere you'd have to take your rockwork apart to fish out. They can't kill anything: their mouths are only able to handle decaying or deteriorating substances. Occasionally an imprudent fish will bite one and get a faceful of bristles but they go away after a day or so; the worms can sting our skin, but are oddly completely harmless to corals and polyps, which are never stung.

It doesn't really have bristles. it has apendages of some sort but they are not bristles they are solid.??? Best way to get rid of one??

you do not need to remove it, if it is indeed a bristle worm, as they are beneficial animals to the over all well being of an salt water system.

You can varify if it is a bristle worm by simply typing bristle worm in google and go to images...

IF it is not an bristle worm like you are contesting, people on the forum need a focused, clear photo to positively identify the organism in queston.

Also, you may have another species of marine polychaetes, so if you want a ID and methods of removal, again, show us a photo of the animal.
