How do you kill Hairy Mushrooms

My apologies, I thought you were talking about mixing up pickling lime....I have NEVER heard of hitting them with actual Lime...

I guess that just goes to show that I am right when I say that I have been involved in this hobby for over 20 years, and I'm still a noob....

dang, can we get some pics? i'm interested in seeing this mushroom take over :) Are they that big of pests? not being neg. by all means cause i dont want to get flammed, but im sure lots of new comers would love freebies. Of course, it all depends on what your schedule works out cause i know i'm a fairly busy person

you know...I have shrooms in my tank, but have never seen them bother anything. They touch my acans, SPS, solymia......no worries. I like pickling lime because you can shut the powerheads off and not only inject the coral, but leave a layer on top of them to kinda "drive it home"

It works good on aptasia, manjos, many softies, and small children....I mean wait....who said that?

the 2 part injections didn't work for me I tryed that 3 weeks ago. They came back even stonger and just split like crazy :-(

tagging along same problem hear. had a softy tank and switche to SPS. missed one mushroom.

You are all going about this entirely wrong...and with so much combined experience!

You must make these hairy shrooms the center piece of your tank; adjust your lighting and water parameters to favor mushrooms, post many pics and threads about how beautiful they are and how quickly they grow, plan to sell them at the next frag auction for $100 a polyp. Then and only then will they wither and die. If they do not die off completely they will at least limit themselves to the most most unreachable cracks and crevasses of your tank.

Such are the wonders of nature, :)

You sir are a genius!

I had the reverse happen when I gave up on my PPE's. They just never grew. So, I had just two polyps that I glued to a rock in my display a couple months ago with an, I don't care what happens to them attitude...

They doubled now in that couple of months, so I'm up to four polyps. :D

Frankly, I still don't care. I think they're overrated, but it's cool to know they're multiplying now especially since I payed 40 bucks a pop for them.

I think it would be a pretty hard sale to convince anyone harry mushrooms are worth anything, but it would be a fun pitch to hear.

your joking right?

PS with any chemistry stuff I'm happy to help sorta my forte

Nope it doesn't. I've tried about everything and they come back. All Joe's joice and kalk and all them do is cause them to split. I've tried vinegar as well.

Two ways to kill them.
1. Epoxy directly over.
2. Bleach the rock.

I'm going to be bleaching some rocks in some bleach solution to get rid of them.

Joes juice is pretty much the same thing as pickling lime....premixed for your pleasure.

I did plug a few shut with epoxy....you must be on the same kick as me.....works great on those hard to reach places
