How does 9ppm sound to you?

I got my treatment system installed yesterday and after about 15 min got 9ppm out of it....thats from 700ppm sulfer. That may also be a high reading from stuff in the lines from before it was installed or salt leftover and may improve some with breakin time. Damn, thats good water!

Are you kidding?! 700PPM!!! That's insane. The filtration system is at almost 99% effectiveness, which is great. Add a 2-3 chamber DI unit and you will easily be pushing 0.

I had just the opposite experience. When I hooked up my new RO/DI unit, I DO get 0 ppm coming out. However, when I switch the TDS meter to measure the incoming TDS, it reads 4 ppm....I honestly find this hard to believe w/ no type of water filtration running on an outside (the unit's in my shed) spigot.
Go figure.

Switch the probes(I'm assuming that you have the dual prbes inline version). If you ever want to test it, I know mine works and I know my water in PPM. You could come over and test it on my water.

Now that I look at it, you are probably a little further of a distance than you would like to trek for a test, but I'm sure someone in your area can test your TDS meter for you. My house runs at 140-145 PPM cold water out the tap and I thought mine was good. My waste is at 158-170PPM. Usable through last carbon stage at 0-8PPM and through the last DI stage at 0.

I picked up a handheld tds meter off ebay for $2 and $4 shipping. Pretty good deal! ;)

I am on a shallow well, so 700ppm is a lot, but not to be unexpected.

Sorry, the above was more centered towards WW from the above post because 4PPM is either an amazing reading or an off-reading.

I got that! Was just mentioning that a backup or new one can be found for cheap if you are willing to look!

Hi Daryl...that reading is probably (in) after the membrane and then (out) after the DI. So, most of the water has already been filtered for the 004 reading. That lets you know when your membrane is starting to fail (which shouldn't be for about 2 years). The out is the finished product after the DI.

Marcye, does that mean I've got it hooked up "wrong"? Or is that just the way the unit is designed?
I didn't really "mess" with any of the units completed tubing set-ups, just plugged in the "in" line and hooked up the "out" line.
Thanks.
It's a great unit, BTW.

It's like that on purpose...allows you to monitor your membrane. Some are setup to test coming into the unit, but IMO knowing what's coming out of the membrane lets you know when the membrane is starting to fail and that does more for you than knowing what's coming into the unit. It can be switched or you can take some tap water in a baggie to your lfs to have it tested on a TDS meter. That way you can know what you're working with to begin with.
