Many factors involved. Seems they grow faster with more intense lighting. I have pc's and my eagle eyes grew from 20 to 50+ polyps in 5 months.

I would have to say that I know nothing about how to get them to grow, but that mine have grown a TON.
I have a 12 gallon Aquapod with 2-27Watt bulbs, one is actinic.
I would say one zoo conoly went from 15 polyps to about 50 in less than 3 months. My tank is less than 4 months old so I know.
Also, another small chunk I put in less than a month ago already doubled.
On another note, someone I know has the exact same tank, exact same setup, and started the exact same time. They do not grow in that tank at all.
Glad mine are growing so I can soon frag and share
