How hard can it be to keep GONIOPORA?

My Gonni is the easiest coral Ive dealt with. I threw it in my tank and its been over a year and its not only going strong and it hosts my clown fish now. I keep seeing everywhere how hard these guys are to keep, my polyps extend at least 4 inches and has several baby ones growing at the base. Mine is in light flow with moderate lighting sitting on my sand bed. Maybe I just got a really hardy one?

It completely depends on the type of goniopora.
Like has been mentioned goniopora stokesis is still impossible.

I might be totally wrong but that looks exactly like mine when i google goniopora stokesis. Some of the google image results look exactly like what i have...What do you think?

Mine is dead and just the "skeleton" (not sure of the correct terminology) remains. Since it is porous does it provide any bio-filtration? Just wondering if I should toss it or if it serves some purpose.

Put it on a low flow, well lit area on your tank. Stir up your sand every day to release some of the gunk for goni to feed on. I have 2 beautiful flower pot for more than 2 years already and growing. Occasional fine powder for filter feeders sold at lfs, mixed with tank water and dump it into the tank is great too. Turn off some of your wavemaker to limit water movement so that they can feed on it.

Stokes is green, most pictures on the internet are wrong. Most goniopora other than a few are hard to id.

I doubt your is if it is doing well...

It actually usually seems to do well and grow and then about a year and a half in on average it dies and in a couple of days usually.

Success for goniopra has to be measured in years.

Is this a goniopora? I found an article which has a picture very similar describing it as such, but I've had others tell me it's galaxea.

Looks more like a hydnophora to me. They are strong stingers too.

He was fine this morning, but then my boyfriend disconnected the sump to clean it (we have an overwhelming algae problem that we can't get under control) and now he looks like this. Whatever this is, if he's dying or whatever, happened in the last 3 hours. Is this him actually dying? Appreciate your help.

I have many gonios in my tank. I have 8. My red one I got about 8 years ago and it has quadrupled in size. The latest one I got was two months ago. All others I have had anywhere between 2 and 6 years and all of them have increased in size.
