How high do you keep you lights above the tank?

Gabriel, my 250's are 3" above the water!

Your tank temp can go over 83Ã"šÃ‚° no problem, its large swings that are the issue. You don't want to keep your tank temp high, but during the summer, my 100 gallon would get as high as 85Ã"šÃ‚° during the day, and down to 82Ã"šÃ‚° by the morning.

really? 3" what about splashing from the fish? my tangs really kick up some water when i am feeding... my lights got wet at 7" above the water...

Never had a problem with them getting wet. I think they were only 4 or 5 inches from the water on my old tank and I didn't have a problem there either. I also have smaller fish than you, that is probably the difference.
