How High To Mount Halide?

I'm wondering just how high I need to mount my halide.

I'll be installing a 250w Radium with a galaxy switchable ballast and a Lumen max elite reflector over a 40b. :headwallblue:

I installed mine at 9.5" with no spotlighting at all. I know of setups with only 6".

If I had the space I would have aimed for 12" though as the above poster mentioned.

When I switched from 150 to 250 I started at 12", now I'm at 9" and all is well. I actually went with a 250 so could hang it a little higher and not have to raise and lower it for maintenance.

On all my tanks I've mounted the 250 watt fixtures, so the bulbs would be at 9".
