How High to Place My New Maxima?

I just ordered my first clam from clamsdirect.com -- a 5" maxima. I know this is a boring clam that needs to be on a rock, as opposed to my sand bed. I've got a couple of places in mind for him in my tank. One is down low about 4" off the bottom and the other is quite high, about 6" from the surface. I could also rearrange things a bit and place him somewhere in the middle. Is it possible to place the clam too high in the tank? My lighting and other equipment is listed below under "current tanks". Thanks.

maximas do better on the sand, your lighting is sufficient enough to keep it at the bottom of your tank.

Thanks for the response. My understanding is that they do best on a flat piece of rock. Granted, the rock could be on the bottom of the tank with sufficient lighting. Are you suggesting that Maximas can be placed directly onto the sand with no rock underneath? Will they simply attach to the glass, and if so, is this preferable to having them attach to a rock or a piece of shell?

Yes, they do best on a piece of rock or shell to attach to. Granted, people have kept maximas fine just on the sand, but they prefer to attach to something.

They can be attach to the glass, but that's not a good idea, if you need to move them you would have to preform "clam surgery". If they're on a rock, you may simply move a rock!

With that AB spacelight, your clams will be jsut fine on the sandbed level of the tank, light-wise.
