How hot? ballest

how hot should a MH ballast get? Mine gets really hot, to hot to hold your hand on, is this normal?

yes they are warm.Mine has a fan built into it.If you look at a flouresent ballast they get hot aswell.This is normal

hmmmm mine doesn't have a fan, but it's only a 150watt MH. Will it cause problems getting that hot? It's a good fixture so i guess it would be ok.

no thats fine.I have another 250 mh that has no fan and the ballast and bulb are together.Its a one piece unit.My other Aqaumedic fixtures have the ballast and fixture seperate.I have had my old mh fixture for 8 years now without a problem.

mine are 400 watt no fans solid box gets hot

It is normal. There is a lot of energy going through them so they are going to heat up.

Thanks i was getting a little worried, i didn't relize they got that hot lol
