How Hot is to Hot?

I do not agree with 80 begin tops either since it has already been proven that SPS can still maintain proper color and health in temps around the mid 80's. My tank during winter is around 80-82 and during summer the tank is between 82-86. During this summer my tank has hit as high as 88.7 and nothing happened besides slight increase in algal growth.

My tank has been running 81-82.7 since the beginning of summer. everything is still growning like normal.

my tank has been running about 85 for some time and just recently went up to 86.7. i got a sump fan and i am below 84. although i have to admit it is quite perturbing to see my cheapo coralife thermometer reading 80.5 while my profilux is reading 82.5 the whole temp thing seems to be directly related to what kind of measuring device you are using at the time +/- 2 degrees.

my tank has hit 90* a couple times this summer already...and i see no ill effects...mind you my tank generally runs from 80-85*...i am searching for a new return pump...as the mag5 is heating the tank to much, it is either that or the rio 1700NW on the skimmer...

be fore getting the mag5 my tank was running 78-82

now i have to run a fan full time and have unplugged my heater

80 Is TOPS. Keep your SPS tank about 75-77 I keep my ZEOvit tank at 73

Yea I can't imagine putting my corals into a 73F bath, the water here in NY gets 73 in late summer/fall, def not tropical weather if you ask me. We get lots of tropicals here from the Gulph Stream during that time. Butterflies, angels etc. I still think though 73 is too cold and might inhibit growth.

I run my tank with a chiller and a/c in my place, my temps go from 78.5F to 79.9F and no problems.

I find in cooler temps ( within reason) you get less algae blooms, but that's just in my tank lol.

Agreed with most here, saying 80 is tops is a bit aggressive. I run anywhere from 77-82, depending on the climate and house situation. Things do fine.
