How I eventually got my Ocellaris to host my GBTA

I have a 225 mixed reef and my ocellaris has been in there for about 3 years now. A couple of months ago I was purchasing a few pieces of coral on a site and needed another $20 spent to get free shipping. So I noticed that a GBTA was $25 and decided to pick it up. I had first checked to see if they were compatible. Most sites said that they were not a natural pair but would sometimes host together. To my chagrin my clown seemed to have no interest whatsoever in the GBTA.

After having the anemone for a couple of months all alone I now wanted to have it hosted by a clown or two since I have never experienced that relationship in my own tank before. I saw two tomato clowns for $10 at my LFS and picked them up after finding out that they host well with BTAs. I know how territorial clowns are to one another but I figured that my ocellaris didn't really spend any time near the anemone and that people have had success with more than one pair in larger aquariums (as long as they are not spawning).

What happened was pretty cool. The tomato clowns went straight for the nem and hosted with it for a couple of days. I was pretty happy to see them doing their thing and the ocellaris didn't pick on them too much. He just chased them around a bit for the first day but after that they pretty much just left each other alone. Well, after about two days of the tomato clowns hanging out in the nem I guess the ocellaris finally figured out what it was. He just took it over and ever since then he has been all over it. I especially like watching him tuck himself in at night when the lights are going out. He basically sits right inside. Now I need to get the tomatoes a nem of their own to put on the other side of the tank.

Anyways, sorry for the long read. I hope you enjoy it. I will post a couple pics once I figure it out. As this is my first thread!

i would never personally put two very different species together in a tank especially two species with very different mature sizes and aggression levels, if you like the occy trade the tomatoes back to the store

I dont think this will work out long term. Tomato clowns are very aggressive. Im sure they will mature and it will not be pretty. Also clownfish dont host anemones, anemones host clownfish.
