How I got approval for my tank upgrade....

I wish there wasnt that much to buy but you know me, I always find something to buy. I am pretty sure that I am going to go with 60x36x25. I think the width will allow me to create an amazing scape for the tank.

Marineland has a tank that is 60*36*27 = 250gallons, so that may be an option for you. It would save you from having to special order a tank and help keep costs down

totally agree. im pretty whipped too. just pointin it out! I CANT DO NOTHIN'! lol
every once in a while ya gotta do somethin without permission tho. keep em on their toes!

Best of luck on the new tank!

By the way, we here on RC know that you and your brother-in-law worked out that scam ahead of time. ;)

The funny thing is we had been working on another one that has to do with a renovation on another part of my house. She values his opinion so I was asking him to tell her that what she wants to do just isnt possible!

Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Normally that's what I would do but there's a monetary penalty that comes along with forgiveness which usually results in a purchase of equal for her. If I get permission I can get away with spending a fraction of my investment. Oh the addiction has got a hold of me!!!

My wife was adamant that I wasnt allowed to upgrade my tank, there was a honey list as long as my arm of chores that had to be done before I could even think about the upgrade.

Then Christmas came and i splashed out on a diamond bracelet for her. The day after boxing day i was making a start on my stand!

You Sir, simply doing 10 or so repetitions with the exercise equipment, got off lightly.

But we all do what we can.

Best of luck with the build.

So far I am getting off light but I did see honey do list and phone numbers for contractors last night.

Anyway, I've decided to definitely go with a 240g 60x36x25. Since this will be an in wall build I am leaning towards getting it from glass cages. Now I've heard all the good and bad about them and most of the bad has been about their corners. Since it will be in the wall you won't be able to see the corners for the most part. I'm working on an updated equipment list so if anyone has some spring cleaning to do.....let me know. I might be interested in buying something from you.

still in the equipment collection process and making the final decision on the tank size...180 or deep dimension 200 or 240. I like the deep dimension for the aquascaping capabilities but not sure if it makes sense with an in wall build. I have also been informed that I need to complete a bathroom remodel before I can start this. That project is set to start in the next week or two.

Here is the equipment I have collected so far...I am trying to everything used where possible.
(3) lumatek 250w-400W ballasts
(3) lumenarc large reflectors w/moguls
(2) icecap 660 ballasts and wiring
(4) sets of vho end caps
OM4
Dart, Iwaki 70 and Blueline 100 hd pumps
1000w heater (might be overkill but I am planning on combining my current system with this one)
BRS dual media reactor (will put up for sale shortly since I am combining systems and already have this)
(2) BRS dosing pumps (might sell for same reasons as stated above or keep as back ups.
(4) Savko 1.5" true union ball valves for closed loop. Found these on ebay and got them for $12 each

What do I need:
Tank, skimmer, sump/fuge, misc plumbing supplies, dry rock, sand and building materials for my stand. I am also going to look for a large mixing container so I can keep enough water on hand if I ever need to do a 50% water change. Im sure I will want to increase the size of my frag tank at some point too unless I decide to use my current 40g dt as a frag tank.

Still a ways to go but you are moving right along. The the bathroom remodel person to hurry up you have a thread to update...LOL.

I am often arguing with the contractor who happens to be me about he/I will start the project. I seem to be losing the argument :)

So, this one is definitely for the books!!!! We were at my wife's sister's house yesterday and they have a very small piece of exercise equipment that apparently is very difficult to use and only my brother in-law has been able to do it correctly. So my big mouth opens up while my wife is trying it and says, "œCome on how hard could it be?" My wife said she will bet me $1000 that I can't do it. Keep in mind my wife doesn't work so her money is ultimately my money so I didn't see the benefit here for me. So my response was forget the money and let me upgrade to the tank of my choice if I can do one and she said deal. Now, let me give you a little color about myself...40 yrs old, 6'1", 250 lbs, I've had two back operations and half of my colon removed. I think the last time I was in a gym was because I needed to use the men's room. I used to be in really good shape but lately that shape can be described as slightly round. I was more concerned about breaking wind while attempting this than actually being able to do it. So without delay, here's what my challenge was"¦..

In the end, I was able to do 10 before my wife said I could stop!!!! So bigger tank here I come!

Now the hard part on deciding what size tank to go with! Thoughts and suggestions are welcomed!

Oh my God I laughed so hard I actually broke wind several times...:lolspin:

Good luck on the new build and post lots o pictures....
