How is the best way to clean live rock?

I want rid of everything except the coralline. I was going to cook it but, figured that would kill the coralline as well. Actually I just want rid of those tube worms that put out the webs. I can't remember the names. I know they are not harmful but, my tank is overrun. I mean thousands... literally.

They are called vermetid snails... You can scrape them off, but be sure to get all of their tube, not just the top... I have found that injecting kalkwasser into their tube works as well...

I need a bit of Kalk powder so I can inject some aiptasias.

Injecting things with kalk is your solution to everything Randy.

I think there is a wrasse of some kind that does but I thought they were called something different?

Oh wait I may be thinking about fether duster I am getting old :)

CBB for feather dusters but not very effective against vermetid snails. I seal their tubes with super glue gel.

That's the ones! I have heard of using kalk and super glue but, that would take forever. I should have started earlier. When I read they were harmless I didn't bother. Then all of a sudden I have thousands. I was thinking more of some kind of dip or something. I have to completely tear down the tank anyway. What about peroxide or something like that? I might try scraping them off out of the water. I hate to lose all the good bacteria and have to re cure.

Haha, I get uptight when someone uses silverware as a tool. I always get the right angle butter knife someone used as a screwdriver.

Ha ha, it sounds like your improper tool usage is haunting you.
I have a couple of old butter knives dedicated to the tank
dedicated or embedded?

So I went with the butter knife technique. It took FOREVER!! I also cut myself pretty good on one snail.

I found a huge snail tube and started breaking the rock around it. It had burrowed deep into the rock.

I would just rather use something stainless and it irritates me when people use my good tools for something else:D

Your right. I would probably be more upset with my tools in saltwater and I did vote on a dedicated butter knife instead of a screwdriver.
