how live is live sand

Should I be seeing any kind of movement, algea, or tiny things like snails after a month in the tank?

I'm just curious

It’s teaming with bacteria that will be beneficial to your tank. There won’t be any live creatures in there yet. It takes a while for them to migrate from your live rock to the sand.

What kind of live sand? Stuff from others aquariums or from the ocean (like Tampa Bay Saltwater) will have lots of life and moving things. The bagged stuff, probably just bacteria, although the stuff I had had some bristleworms as well as some other worms.

I bought OceanDirect livesand and inspected it with a microscope. There was more than just bacteria, with several kinds of micro-organisms moving about, but it was all microscopic. All of my worms and visibile sand critters came from my liverock.

Use a red light at night about 1 hour after the lights go out.
