How long after prime to dose cupramine. Quarantine tank

SO!!! Without using my brain last night around 9oclock in the quarantine tank I did a bit of an overdose of prime. Today I had planned on starting my GSP on cupramine treatment..he contracted ich from another fish that was introduced and has since parished...I was lazy and did not Qt. the tank is your typical bare Qt. I was just a bone head and now need to know when I can start the cupramine after the od of prime last night. I know you are not suppose to use cupramine with any reducers such as prime and amquel. How long do they take to wear off? What should I do?? I wanna get the cupramine going. :eek1:

i would probably move him to a small holding vessel, drain the QT tank, and refill with fresh made saltwater.

replacing the water is cheaper and easier than replacing the fish.

Hypo is simple. Just keep adding RODI water to the QT tank until the salinity is exactly 1.009. Use a calibrated refractive ter. Keep at exactly this salinity for 90 days and then slowly ramp back up.

But I think hypo and Cu combined is a bad idea.

And FWIW - you (and your GSP) will be much better served using the Tank Transfer Method rather than copper. Puffers (and other smooth skinned fish) tend to do very poorly in copper - heck - MOST fish do poorly in copper. I have not used any in over 20 years - TTM all the way for me.

If it were me, this is what I would do.

I am in no way an expert but I am currently battling ich/velvet in my display. I am also proactively treating a new tang in qt with cupramine and prazipro. I would drain the tank, refill it with saltwater and a clean sponge filter and add a bottle of live bacteria. This will instantly cycle your tank and you can begin your 2-3 weeks of cupramine. I wouldn't do hypo but hypo is not effective against velvet which your fish could have. When I posted pics of my problem on here and on the other forum and my local club it was 50/50 on opinions of ich vs velvet

If it were me, this is what I would do.

Hypo is to sensitive(.001 in either direction and you start from scratch again), and most fish do not tolerate copper very well. TTM is what I use and have since the beginning of me in this hobby, and I have yet to have ich.

It's not hard to maintain salinity in a suitably sized tank. No different than maintaining salinity I. Your DT

Also it's only + not - on the tolerance, if it goes to 1.008 it's fine, the ich will still die.
