How long before Clowns host in Anemones?

Sorry if this has been asked a billion times but for some reason I couldn't find an answer...

Anyway, I just introduced a pair of clowns into my tank. I have a LTA that's about 5 or so inches accross.

So far the two clowns haven't seemed interested? Do they typically take a while before hosting?

Yep.

But it took my B&W O's about 6 weeks to be hosted by my LTA.

I've had my "pair" in the tank with a RBTA for about 4 months with only a little progress. She's willing to stare or even stick her head in a little bit but nothing more.

some get instant results the moment they put their nem or clown fish in with the other...some have waited years having both in the same tank before hosting took place...

I always thought the anemone hosted the clowns, not vice versa
I don't have any anemone in my 40 gallon tank, but FWIW, after about 7 months my two Ocellaris decided to take to my torch coral!

my heater is currently hosting my pair of picassos if that helps any...it sounds weird but it's true...

kinda depends my anemone hosted my false percs after about 3-4 weeks....but i heard that some people's false percs just never acknowledge the anemone.....if they dont host in a month or so print a color pic of a clownfish and tape it to the side of the tank i heard that works.

It has little to do with Ocellaris clowns, and more to do with the anemone/clownfish combination that people try to pair up.

E. Quadricolor and M. Doreensis are not natural hosting species for either A. Ocellaris or A. Percula, so on average it takes them longer to find them than it would a healthy Gigantea or Magnifica.

Thanks for the info... It's only been a few days so I wasn't really concerned; just curious.

Even if they never paired up with the anenome they are still fun to watch... and their gluttony makes me smile

Every situation is different. I've had clowns that have hosted anenomes as soon as they're put in the tank, and I've also had a clown that never hosted. Try luring the clowns near the LTA with some food.

when i first put my yellow stripe maroon in the tank it immediatly
found my green buble tip anemone & had no problem hosted in it.

your situation maybe get a new anemone and see
if the clowns will host it.
thats only if your willing to spend more money,

but it might fail..=)

My percula clown didnt pick a host for the first 3 months she was in the tank(though she did sleep on top of a powerhead with my blue tang). LTA available to her.
I finally saw her showing hosting behavoirs with a torch coral the day before I pulled all my fish to qt because the blue tang developed ich.
When I put her back into the main tank she didnt return to the torch coral, or the powerhead, or the LTA.
Within the last month, 8months after she was introduced to the tank, she has chosen to sleep in my pair of featherdusters but still shows no hosting behavior during the day. There is currently the origional LTA(which had disappeared at one point and was thought dead) and the Haddoni carpet I bought to replace it available to her, neither of which she has ever shown the slightest interest in.

I have two Black Saddle clowns and about 3 months ago I had to take my Percula out of my sons smaller tank, I put her in a basket with a new RBTA and a new smaller percula. They took to each other right away. the smaller percula took the the RBTA that same day but the large one took about a week. Once I let them out of the basket, they tried staying with the anemone but my larger saddle decide it was to be hers. They have been in the tank now for 3 months and just two nights ago they starting hosting in what I am now told from another thread is my gigantea. While the saddle clown doesn't really allow any other fish in any of the anemones they have stood their ground and have made it their home.

I have a clown that I have had in the tank since the beginning, which is a little over two years now. About nine months ago, I put a tongue coral in the tank and she hosted that immediately. I found it kind of strange, but I did notice that the coral was looking pretty healthy. Then about two months ago I put in a bubble tip, and my clownfish was literally sleeping in it that night. I guess it all depends on your situation. Clownfish are pretty funny and unpredicatable when it comes to stuff like this. Happy hosting.
