how long can a tank last without power

I think the oxygen will run out before then. You might want to go to Home Depot and rent a generator .......then you won't lose the items in your fridge either. I think when I did it, it was only about 50 bucks and deposit, but I am not really sure.

depends on the bioload/temperature change. if there's a high O2 demand, you make consider getting some airpumps going in the tank to keep aeration adequate. I'd also monitor temp and try to do something about as necessary.

It should.......an air pump with some air stones should work fine, remember to watch your temp to... if its real humid and hot like it is here that could become a problem. If it does just grab some ziplock bags fill them with ice and let them float. Good luck.

Texas people think alike....LOL ;)

Its only 24 hrs, get a battery operated air pump to be sure. Generator a little over kill for a 34 gallon.

Or you can get an AC/DC adapter and hook up the essentials to your car and run it every once in a while.

Mine was off for about 20 hrs and the temp in the tank dropped to about 60-65 degrees. I stirred the water some by hand during the deal, but that was about it. I have a mixed reef and things looked pretty rough for about a week or so, but didn't lose anything and now everything looks good. I'm not suggesting you do it that way, because it could definitely cause real problems, but my point is that you should be ok with an air pump and maintaining a decent temp.

In my experience oxygen is the critical factor in power outages, as long as there are no wild temp swings in the tank. It's typical for people to run tanks without lights for 3 days and say that the tank looks better than before.

Get yourself the battery powered air pumps and you should be fine. Lights out for a day won't bother the tank, and lack of flow won't be an issue either, as long as oxygen is getting to the tank. I have run a 32g with just a hob remora skimmer providing flow and oxygen, and it was happy as can be.

a good investment is a dc power inverter. you can pick one up for cheap, say 30 bux or so, 400W. plug into cigarette lighter in the car, or use an old battery you have. you can run the sump pump and perhaps a heater, be fine for days.

run 4 hours, off 2 or 3 hours.
