how long can we keep ro/di water?

Forever, it will not go bad as long as you keep it covered.
Not so sure this is true. If you bought a bottle of drinking water from the store, opened it, closed it, and kept it in the fridge for a month. Its not going to be the same from the time you bought it. Taste and smell. IMO running ro/di water into a bucket and closing the container is not giving you any sort of great fresh seal. Its not vac. tight. I've found this to be true from hoarding water from the LFS. Before I got my own unit. So, is water that smells and tastes different as it sits bad for the tank? I don't know. I know that I myself did it for some time till it was brought to my attention by my buddy at the LFS as being a bad idea. Now when I make RO/DI water its in my tank within 5hrs. I'd love to hear more opinions on this though because there certainly is less hassle for making large amounts over small.

What do you do with top-off water?

I store about 20-30 gallons in my brute can. I take about 5 gallons a week out of it, and refill when I have around 5 gallons. So some of the water can sit for about a month. I haven't had a problem. But I will say that I do have a powerhead in the container to keep the water from becoming stagnant. Nothing big, just something to add movement. Does it help? I don't know, but so far so good.

I run a maxie 1200 on my 30 gal rubbermaid, and it last me a month. I think as long as you keep the water moving it should last for a month with no problems.

I keep a 55g barrel filled 24/7. It has a MJ600? and a heater in it and has never been a problem

I keep a 30 gal brute filled for auto topoff purposes. I have a powerhead and heater. It works well. I have heard that if it is not covered it can change, but for a long time.

water doesn't like to be deionized, and will bond with any free floating ion it can, this is why my ro vendor recommended using either a gray brute trash can or 5 gallon bottle as these are the most inert plastic containers available,

my water storage sits in a corner where a cat peed on the rug years ago, if i leave water sitting in the bottom of the bin for two weeks it will smell like ammonia, i use kalkwrasser for my fresh water top off and this gives my DIed water something to bond with as well as keeping it in a covered 5 gal bucket for storage, my brute trash can is only used for over night salt water mixing and as a drip pan when im filling buckets for fresh top off

use a TDS meter, its a good indicator for water contamination.

i use a 44 gallon brute for my setup. i put a bulkhead at the top edge (overflow drain) and a bulkhead at the bottom (ball valve for draining).

i havent cleaned it for atleast 4 months. the top never comes off and i let it run for about 2 extra hours after its full once a month to skim the surface incase anything managed to get in. the bulkhead i have at the top has vinyl tube on it that drains into my a/c drain line. i had to install that after the 3rd time of forgetting that the RO/DI unit was still ON. The wife said that if i flooded the laundry room one more time that she would make "The Water Thingy" (that's what she calls my RO/DI unit) dissappear.

needless to say the water always comes out .000 on the TDS meter, no bad smell, tastes normal and its always crystal clear.

So if I keep mÝ ro/di water in the plastic water container they sell at lowes for a week with it closed I should be fine right?

just make sure to test your water before you put it in your tank.
it's always a good idea to test your parameter's before you put your new saltwater in your tank.

I generally store for a month at a time in 25litre barrels. used to test for things before using but having never finding anything, I now just test TDS is still zero. Seems to do me ok. Mine are stored in garage in the dark and I just make sure when making a mix it gets enough oxygen into it and check the ph before adding.
