However it's still not bullet proof, he went on a vacation for a few days last year, came back to his tank crashed, because the chiller on/off switch was stuck and the chiller had been running non-stop for at least 1-2 days. Ouch.

that sucks, looks like he has a controller, I wonder why it didn't shut it down when the temp went below a certain temp?
 
so when you guys leave for about a week you dont even bother having someone come feed? i have anthias and i could see that becoming a problem after a few days..
 
I have left my tank once or twice second time power went out and my brother in law didn't bother to fix it lost quite a bit of coral and fish. So I am quite nervous about next time I have since updated to reef keeper and aqua controller hoping for the best.

I think it was the switch that controlled the on/off of chiller was stuck, so even the controller told it to turn off, it didn't. :(
