How long did it take for your Dendrophyllia to open?

This is about as open as I've seen it. Interestingly enough when I turn off the flow to feed it it starts to close up. Hasn't turned out to be the great purchase I thought it would be.

It looks like it's going to be very pretty when it opens. Have patience, you seem to be doing all the right things since it's slowly starting to open more and more.

update, at night it looks amazing, in the day it looks like how it used to at night.

It's getting there and is eating well. Only problem is since its in my display i'm adding a lot more food then I normally do, but my skimmer is great so water quality hasn't suffered much (yet).

Very nice! I still can't get mine to open during the day after 1 year.

Are you sure its a dendro?
Is mine?

I thought I was sure but if I have to wait a year with no results I'm going to be very upset. Maybe I should trade it in for 10 sun coral colonies

Just feed it during the night to make sure it doesn't die of starvation. After a couple of months stop feeding it at night and spray it with some selcon, shrimp juice or something close. After a few mins try feeding it. My dendros open during the day. Suncorals come out also but mostly when I feed the tank. But both come out a lot more during the nightime.

Just be careful where you put the mysis. Here's a pic of 1 little polyp where his belly almost wasn't big enough to swallow a mysis.

BTW, for the longest time, this was just 1 giant polyp, then all of a sudden, BAM!!!! it now has about 10 polyps!

if they have not opened, you bought the species that are very hard to get to stay open in the day.. Both look similar so had to tell the diff, but trust me, you will probably never get them to open during the day like at night.

I believe its D. arbuseula

still doesn't open during the day but I'm not giving up it hasn't been that long. Going to fatten it up either way by feeding 1-2 times a day (morning and night)

I will take some updated pics tomorrow morning if I have time.

Here is an old pic of one of my colonies...

andrewkw~ Not sure yours are dendros... They look like sun polyps to me... Though I do have some dendros that only open at night... Sometimes its hard to tell the difference though...

it's a dendro 100% not 100% sure on species, but its not sun coral.

it's also starting to open a bit during the day now

opens most days under the light now. Took quite a long time but it was a really rough shipment the 1000s of dendros that have since appeared on the local market appear to be open right away.
