How long do trophonts stick on fish?

I have a Kole that just finished TTM. I may have done something wrong because I think she has Ich so I may do it again. I see white spots on her when i get home from work, but when I wake up in the morning, theyre gone. Ive seen Ich before since one of my fish had them, but they didnt fall off like this.

Shes in a 20g QT for observation now with PVC pipes and HOB filter.

I dont have sand in the QT so that cant be it.

I thought I read in another forum that trophonts usually stick to fish at least 3 days. Could they fall off after 12 hours or so?

The spots on the fish are usually visible for at least a day or two, but the parasite may already be there before you see the fish's reaction to it (the white spot). The minimum attachment time is around 3 days.

Research has shown that the parasite only leave the fish after lights are off (unless you leave the light always on)

So if you see a clear spot in the morning and a few hours later it is gone while the light was continuously on, it likely wasn't ich.

But what you observed fits ich perfectly: visible spots in the evening and no spots in the morning.

Agreed.

Dang it. I wonder what I did wrong. Here's my normal process:

Equipment/meds - Two 10 gallon tanks, air stones, two heaters, pvc, prazipro/prime, colander

Transfer to first 10 gallon tank
After 1st day, dose prime
After 72 hours, transfer to 2nd 10 gallon tank using colander
Rinse first tank, heater, pvc, colander and let it dry until next use - no vinegar or bleach
Throw away air stones and airline tubing.

Then repeat 3 more times. I dose prazipro either 1st and 3rd transfers or 2nd and 4th.

Also, i just realized i miss-typed. Its an Achilles, not Kole. I guess Kole was in my head when typing that.

Anyway, Ill take a pic later today when i get home. No spots this morning.

If its a Achilles then I willing to bet that it is without question ich. Not sure where you went wrong... this is why some of us do a extra transfer in case anything was missed in the first three

The only thing I can see is no scrubbing. I also do not use vinegar or bleach. I do however use extremely hot(like hand scalding hot) water and scrub then go as cold as possible and scrub again. I wear gloves the water is so damn hot and cold. Might not have any effect at all but just giving you info on how I handled it.

Ideally you have 4 full sets of equipment for TTM that are well sterilized and dry before you start. That way sterilization oversights can be excluded.

There is a small residual risk, especially with surgeon fish, that a protomont encysted on the fish itself. For that reason it is best to observe the fish after the treatment for a few weeks.

I hope you get rid of it!!! TTM was the most time consuming and expensive thing I have ever done. I didn't add fish until after a year and so far no fish show any signs of it. Good luck!

Well, I didnt post pics over the weekend because there hasnt been a single spot. Pretty good news to me.

Ill still go through another round of TTM to ensure though.

Would you believe me if I told you a local reefer did TTM on his fish for his WHOLE fallow period? I thought I misheard him. Nope!!! He was that paranoid.
