I am trying to have all sps tank and I see great tanks out there but not sure how long the MH are on. Also Actinics how long do you keep on?

MH 10am-4
Actinics 7am-7pm

i am starting growth but not were i want to be in 6 months.
I know there is people who say to put on for 9hrs but dont want to burn any sps

thanks

MH is fine but the actinics i would shorten to 8am-8pm. but it looks fine. I used to run my MH for 6 hours a day. do you have 250 or 400 because I had 400's

My 12kK reeflux 2x250w SE Luminarc 7hrs in between 12hrs 2X80W t5 coral blue and actenic . Another centred 14kK BLV 250W SE luminarc run 6hrs in between all lights. MH 14in above water. Give me good growth.

5 Hours for 3 400W Radiums w/ 2 110VHO actinic during that time frame.
Various other VHO lighting throughout a 12 hour period from 8AM to 8PM

250w Radium in a Lumenmax Elite fixture, Galaxy ballast (electronic), over a 20" tall tank, 8.5 hours a day.

I used to run it 5 hours but my SPS began to have issues (poor color), and quickly turned around once I increased the photoperiod.

Photoperiod can be tricky because it also can depend on the ballast and reflector used. I would also venture a guess that factors such as in-tank flow and nutrient levels also impact things (e.g., if a coral can't get the nutrients it needs because and the light is saying, "Grow fast, now!", there will be issues).

I would experiment over time to see what works best. You're not going to kill your SPS by having a shorter light period to start, and then you can very slowly over weeks, increase it and exam the effect.
