For clowns to start laying eggs? I have had a pair of Ocellerie clowns for about 7 months now, they have moved tanks twice but have been in a stable tank for about 5 months now. I have heard when the clowns get a black shade on them it means they are mature ?? is this true? And I have seen them doing the mating dance or whatever its called. I have a Green bubble tip anemone that host them.

Clowns can reach maturity in as early as 9 months, but 24 months is probably a more realistic spawning age.

One of my pairs has been together for 2 years and still no spawns.. They have been doing the mating dance for months.. I am starting to think that the tank environment is just too chaotic with high flow and light (for the NEM) for the clowns to get comfortable..

Clowns can also be notorious for taking months to start spawning again when moved..

Also, although melanistic colors tend to appear more as clowns mature, I don't think you can generalize to say that this means they are spawn ready, at least IME.

Okay, hopefully it wont be 24 months! Haha, my tank isnt as hectic as it sounds compared to yours..I dont have a whole ton of flow but i have high lighting, only one 150w MH, and i have a pretty calm bioload.

It took my wild-caught Black Ocellaris over two years. My SA Fancy Ocellaris have been together for two years and will probably spawn in a few months, as I'm seeing lots of pre-spawning activity.

3) what is the temp of your tank?
4) is there a size differance
5) what is you light cycle

No, there are two others in the tank. Huge size difference. light cycle is 2:30-10pm

temp stays at 79-81
